Process

I am a one man shop and do everything from mitering tubes to answer the phone and sweep the floors. The first step to ordering your hand built frame is to call or email me to start the conversation about what kind of bike you are looking for. After that conversation, I ask for a $500 non refundable deposit to cover materials and get you your spot in line. Currently my build time is 8 months upon receiving your deposit. When I receive your deposit, we continue the conversation about your bike details including braze on’s, racks, fenders, tire clearance, etc. In addition to getting your body measurements to provide a base for fitting, we will talk about your current bicycle fit, your riding style, your cycling goals and what you plan on using the bike for. This is an important step to insure that the bike is built for you and your needs. Often, builders put too much emphasis on measurements of your body and forget to take into consideration the differences in flexibility, riding style and how the bicycle will be used.

When I have received all the information that I need to build your frame, I will draw a full scale plan for your frame. There is some time before I start cutting tubing and putting your bicycle together if you need a couple weeks to think about the details like paint color, that’s just fine. I will let you know when your frame is ready to go to paint and approximately, how long it will take. This is when we can start to discuss parts and components. I can source every type of component on the market as well as some new old stock parts. From mass produced parts like Shimano, Campy and Sram to boutique components like Honjo fenders, Brooks saddles and Schmidt dynamo hubs, I can build up your bicycle to suit your style and needs. This process takes a full day and is the true final touch on your bike.  I charge $100 to $150 to build up a bicycle with a new groupo. I hand build wheels for $50 labor per wheel also. I can ship your bike built up or just the frame anywhere in the country for $75 to $125.
